Nutrition, sleep, circadian rhythm, stress, exercise, and social connection have profound effects on health and immune response to infection. Immune dysregulation associated with severe COVID is well documented. Likewise, the effects of these lifestyle aspects on response to infection have been studied with respect to viral illness. This lecture will explore data related to lifestyle in the context of the pandemic. Long Covid risk factors, pathophysiology, and potential treatments from a functional medicine perspective will be explored. Questions related to vaccine risks/benefits stratified by age and comorbidities will be explored. Data related to effectiveness of antiviral medications, supplements, and botanicals will also be discussed.
